What can you do at koksjide?

Prawn fishing on horseback, an authentic show

Shrimp fishing on horseback takes place at low tide and lasts around two to three hours. The fisherman, dressed in a yellow oilskin, waders and a suroît, sits on a wooden saddle on the back of his horse, which drags the heavy trawl behind him through the chest-deep water.

Visit the Ten Duinen Abbey Museum

The Abbey of the Dunes is an abbey that existed between 1127 and 1796. It began as a hermitage established in the middle of the dunes at Koksijde, Belgium, in 1107. In the XIIᵉ century, the hermitage was elevated to the rank of abbey, added a chapel and more solid buildings, and affiliated to the Cîteaux order.

Ten Bogaerde

Ten Bogaerde was originally a monastic barn that belonged to the Abbey of the Dunes in Koksijde, Belgium. The building underwent restoration in 1993, with the addition of an exhibition room in the 17th-century church. The municipality purchased the farm in 2004, and the former prelature was converted into a restaurant called Mondieu. The building was featured in the television series David as Villa Klaerhout. The old barn, dating back to the 13th century, now serves as the George Grard Foundation and hosts temporary exhibitions. Additionally, the former pigsty from the 18th century has been transformed into a brasserie and bistro, while the old gate, partly from the 13th century, has undergone restoration.

The beach at Koksijde-Oostduinkerke has been attracting seals for some time now. After an absence of almost half a century, the Westhoek coast is once again home to a small seal population. According to Sea Life specialists, the seal population on the coast has increased tenfold in thirty years, partly thanks to their protected status, which now prohibits hunters from harming them.

Hoge Blekker

The Hoge Blekker is the highest dune in Belgium, reaching a height of 32 metres. It is located in the Doornpanne nature reserve in the municipality of Koksijde, in the province of West Flanders.

Plopsaland De Panne

Plopsaland is a Belgian theme park located in Adinkerque in the municipality of De Panne, just 30 minutes by public transport from Koksijde. The park opened under this name on 29 April 2000. Before that date, it was known as Meli Park.
